MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
JOB DESCRIPTION

 

PRESBYTERY of ARKANSAS requirements
1. Each church will prepare and maintain a church register in accordance with the following specific guidelines:
a. Rolls of Pastors, Elders, Deacons and Trustees, with all the information called for in the Church Register. (G-10.0302c.)
b. Membership rolls: Active, Inactive and Affiliate Members – including all the information on these pages called for by the Church Register. (G-10.0302a.)
c. An accurate record of all infant and adult baptisms, including all the information called for by the Church Register. (G-10.0302a.c.)
d. An accurate record of all marriages of church members and all marriages performed on or off church property by the ministerial staff of the church. (G-10.0302c.)
e. Register of deaths – name, residence, date of death and place of burial. (G-100302b.)

MEMBERSHIP
1. Maintain the Memorial Board. Order and install brass plates to
recognize member’s lives.
2. Notify members by letter when placed on “Inactive Roll” if possible.
3. Responsible for updating and publishing a directory listing of members and friends of the church to be handed out periodically.
4. Maintain a Membership Chairperson Notebook which includes:
a. Memorial plate information – the layout, where ordered, etc.
b. Membership correspondence sent and received.
c. Copies of Session Membership reports
d. Copies of any motions on membership presented and approved by Session.
5. Maintain the “Our Saints” notebook which includes if possible:
a. Copy of the newspaper obituary
b. Copy of the obituary from the funeral home website
c. Copy of the Memorial or Funeral Service folder
d. Copy of their initial Church Membership questionnaire
6. Maintain a Members Notebook that contains the initial Church Membership Questionnaire for the Active, Inactive and dropped members.
7. Maintain the computerized membership file (Membership Plus).

SUNDAY WORSHIP
1. Participate in the Sunday Worship Service on “All Saints Day” (1st Sunday after Halloween). Names of church members are read who have died since the previous “All Saints Day”.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE MEMBERS
1. Session Membership Elder is Chair
2. The Chair will appoint annually one member from the congregation.
3. The Chair can appoint one additional member during the year from the congregation if necessary. (when this happens The Session will be informed)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


NOT INCLUDED:

Serve as the Session Liaison Member to the Board of Deacons and to meet with the Pastor and the Moderator of the Deacons prior to each of the meetings of the Board of Deacons

Be responsible for the meal portion of all Congregational meetings when food is being served.

NEW to discuss:

4. Record attendance and provide total to Church Secretary to be posted.
5. Inform the deacons to follow up on members and friends not in
attendance.
