Evangelism Committee Job Description
Elder: Norm Hockley

EVANGELISM COMMITTEE
JOB DESCRIPTION

The mission of the Evangelism Committee is to equip members to understand that evangelism is the tool that brings others to Christ and “His Church”.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
To help the congregation to prepare for 2017 by helping to create an environment that:

1. Acknowledges ministry taking place outside the “walls of the church”.

2. Welcomes and embraces people of lower economic status.

3. Embraces cultural diversity (especially Hispanics).

4. Helps people of the Boomers and younger generations encounter God.

To meet these responsibilities, the committee will assume the following tasks:

The Chairperson or another committee member shall present an Evangelism Minute monthly for the congregation. Emphasis will be that bringing others to hear the Word of God is the responsibility of all Christians, not just the Pastor or the Evangelism committee. (In 2007 the Evangelism Minute will be given of the 4th Sunday of the month.)

At least quarterly an article on Evangelism shall appear in the Presbyterian Connection.

The Committee will work with other committees to be more sensitive to the needs of others in the community in which we live and serve. Activities will be planned to meet these needs and attract others to fellowship in our church.

In conjunction with the Deacons, committee members will try to be alert for newcomers to the community and first time visitor, with emphasis on inviting them to worship with us and providing a special “information packet” about our church.

Work to involve newcomers in church activities to instill a sense of belonging, but give them time to adjust to life in our church before asking them how they would like to serve the Lord.

The Chairperson shall attend all Stated and Called Session meetings. In the instance when the Chairperson of the Evangelism Committee is not currently serving on the Session, the Chairperson shall have voice but no vote on all Session matters.
